Jenny C., WW, Atkins, South Beach, Nutri-System, Calorie Counting, Cabbage Soup, Slim-Fast, Starvation, Binge/Purge ... you can lose weight using any weight loss program out there if you stick to it. Some methods are dangerous, some are expensive, some are time consuming, some are tried and true and healthier than others but if you can't see yourself doing it for the rest of your life and think once you get the weight off you can go back to eating like you did before you are setting yourself up to fail.
I can't tell you how many times I thought I had my weight problem licked after losing 60+ pounds only to regain it in record time and end up fatter than I was before I started the life-changing diet.
This time was different. Nothing, I mean, absolutely nothing, was off limits. I've had cake, cookies, pasta, bread, alcohol, you name it, I've eaten it and still lost weight. The difference this time is I've only had what I really wanted. I stayed away from the boxed crap and only indulged if I REALLY wanted it. If I took a few bites and it wasn't as good as I expected it to be, I didn't finish it.
I've also put in more time at the gym than I ever have before. I learned how amazing an endorphin high can be and I've become addicted to cardio kickboxing. I absolutely love how I feel after getting good and sweaty at the gym. Some days it is a struggle to get there but it is always worth it.
I read so many blogs where people moan about not being able to eat chocolate or go out to dinner with friends because of the temptations they will face. Dieting shouldn't take over your life. You need to find one that works with your life and one that you can do for the rest of your life. I never thought I'd be saying this but if I can do it, you can too. Find what works for you and stick with it, be consistent and never give up.
What works for you?

Original South Beach Diet

My brother likes to say there is only ONE diet that always works. It's the Original South Beach Diet: vodka, cocaine and cigarettes. It's extremely effective but can only be used by the young and stupid and I am neither.
I still enjoy a little Stoli, Grey Goose, Kettle One or Absolut now and then but I haven't touched blow since sometime in the mid-80s and I kicked the cigarette habit around the same time back when they cost $1.25/pack.
I'll admit it's tempting because you definitely get results quick and it's so easy to do because when you're drunk or strung out on nose candy you don't even think of food and we all know that cigarettes kill your taste buds but I think I'll keep trying the old fashion tricks of eating healthy foods and moving my a$$.
Things were so much easier when I was young and stupid. What's the worst effective diet you've tried?

Happy No Diet Day!

Today is International No Diet Day. Please don't take "no diet" the wrong way, it doesn't mean you should celebrate by eating all the cake you want all day.
Most of us who have been at this weight loss game for a while have been disappointed by the results of every new diet out there or we've lost weight only to regain it back at lightening speed plus another 5 or 10+ pounds (hi, that's me). We've been "good," we've dieted, we've lost, we've regained, we've dieted again and again but we just keep going round the same circle, jumping through the same hoops, doing the same tricks and we end up in the same fat place over and over again.
I think I've learned my lesson after all these years. There is no quick fix for permanent weight loss. To be healthy we have to live a healthy lifestyle that will sometimes include cake. We can't deprived ourselves of foods we love but we can learn to eat them in moderation. It's all good (well, except for those evil carrot muffins).
I'm on the No Diet diet where I eat good food and move my a$$ on a regular basis. It is the easiest plan to live with. All you have to do is eat lots of fruits, vegetables, lean protein and occassional treat and work up a good sweat on a consistent basis. Sounds easy enough, huh?
Go here to check out the top 10 reasons diets don't work. I love the number one reason to give up dieting: "Learning to love and accept yourself just as you are will give you self-confidence, better health, and a sense of well-being that will last a lifetime."
Be good to yourself and enjoy your life today. Don't wait until you lose 10, 20, 50, 100, or 200+ pounds. Start living the life you want right now.
