Challenges Update

Here we are smack dab in the middle of July, more than halfway through 2011 already. Time keeps ticking by faster and faster and before we know it the summer will be over.

It's been crazy hot and humid here in New England and there is no relief in sight with the forecast calling for a heatwave with temps in the 90s the whole week. I'm not a big fan of the heat and find myself daydreaming about snow and cooler temperatures when I feel sweat dripping down my back just standing still. I know most people think I'm crazy but the heat and humidity just sucks all the energy right out of me. Thank G-D for air conditioning.

It's that time again for another update for the Slimmer this Summer and 101 Days of Summer Challenges:

No loss/no gain this week but I'm happy to be practicing maintenance. I'm totally rocking the slow and steady plan.

HYDRATION

It's so much easier to remember to drink water when it's so damn HOT. I can't seem to get enough water these days since I'm pouring sweat just walking outside.

EXERCISE

I've been getting my ass kicked at kickboxing twice a week (and loving it!), going for long walks late in the day and doing time on the elliptical at the gym regularly. I even got some swim time in the pool yesterday.

DO NOT QUIT

I'm all in this time. Quitting is not an option!

KEEP BLOGGING

I'm so thankful to be part of this blogging community. I am inspired every single day. Thank you!

ENCOURAGE OTHERS

I wish I had more time to comment and encourage everyone but I've been trying to limit my computer time and actually get out and live life instead of sitting in front of the screen reading and writing about it.

C25K

This goal is still on hold due to the wonky knee. Someday....

GET TO GOAL and START MAINTENANCE ~ FINALLY

I'm not there yet but I'm getting some good maintenance practice.

NSV!

I still can't believe it - I wore a pair of SIZE 4 shorts! SIZE 4! Really? I must be dreaming, right? Somebody pinch me. I don't care if it's just vanity sizing, the tag said SIZE 4. How is that possible? The last time I was at this weight I think I was squeezing into Size 10s. I think it goes to prove that the number on the scale doesn't represent the whole picture. The weight may have been the same but my body composition is totally different. I didn't think it was possible for me to ever squeeze into a Size 4. I think I have sticker (tag) shock. Is today's Size 4 equal to Size 10s from 10 years ago? I don't think I really want to know.

Well, it's time for me to get my ass to the gym and work on getting off these last few stubborn pounds and get to my goal. Slow and steady....

Stay strong, be cool and rock on!

  1. What? Size 4?? Great!

I can't lose those last 3 lbs, either. I'm beginning to think it won't happen, but I'm still trying.

  2. Size 4 is fantastic! Looks like you are doing great on all your challenges.

I can spend too much time on the computer, too (it is also part of my professional life). What has worked for me is to set a time limit for blogging. It helps.

    Have a great week! Michele

  3. No matter how you adjust for inflation, a size 4 is awesome!!!

  4. Woot on size 4!! I agree, the scale doesn't always show success - while I am still down 16 pounds since March - my size 12 pants are too big and I only have a couple pair of size 10's - need to go shopping!

    Have a great week!

  6. I'm laughing at "temps in the 90's" - it's been 100+degrees here for the last MONTH. ugh. I'm so OVER the heat!!!

I am SWOONING over your size 4s!!! I seriously, cannot even imagine what that is like. I am so, so happy for you. :)

  8. YEAH!!! That is fantastic. Your goals are doable and even enjoyable except the heat. I love summer, I love the heat except right now our heat index is over a 100 and for us in Minnesota that's HOT!!!
Take care and keep up the great work. God Bless!!

  11. Kudos on the size 4! Who cares about vanity sizing? I had on a pair of size 4 jeans for about 15 minutes once. I couldn't sit down in them, but by golly, they were buttoned and zipped and I snapped a picture before I peeled them off!

  12. Wow - size 4 is really, really tiny! Congratulations on your accomplishments!

  13. Jo: It will happen as long as you keep trying. If for some reason you can't banish those last 3 pounds, like my last 6, I can't imagine it will make that much of a difference in how you look and feel.

Michele: That's a great idea, I should start setting a time limit on blogging.

Lizzie: Inflation sucks but you're right, a size 4 is a size 4. Pinch me!

Biz: Excellent progress, 0.6 pounds/week adds up, slow and steady. If I could get off my ass and start cleaning out the closet I could send you some Size 10s.

Rochelle: I'm still shocked but so happy I finally learned that slow and steady is the way to go. I never thought I would be able to inspire anyone after struggling for so long. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support. It won't be easy to stay cool this week but I'll try.

Jill: I guess the 90s sounds comfortable after you've been sweating it out with temps at 100+. Thank G-D for air conditioning!

downsizers: I don't even think my diaper was that small.

Julie: I hope you are finding a way to stay cool in this crazy heatwave.

Marion: Not sure I could pull off the styles in the teenager department but I did buy a t-shirt from the boys dept. recently ;)

Debbi: Kickboxing is SO MUCH FUN! You should try to find a class and check it out. I never thought I would enjoy something like that but I'm addicted to it now.

Cammy: Damn, I should have taken a picture because who knows if I'll be able to get those Size 4s over my thighs again after they go through the wash.

Diane: Thanks for showing me the way.

P.S. In reality I think I'm a solid Size 6 or 8 which is still smaller than I ever thought possible. I've tried on other Size 4s and wasn't able to get them past my thighs and Size 6s and 8s that were really tight. I know it really shouldn't matter what number is on the tag or the scale as long as I'm staying healthy and feeling good in my own skin.

  14. Hi MB! In response to your comment on my blog: I have been struggling with my weight my entire adult life, which is 25 years. So I do understand what you're saying. Since 2007, I've kept off about 35 pounds, which did not make me skinny at all, but got me out of the women's department and into the misses' department.

Over the past 4 years, I've had a *very* difficult time in my mind transitioning between being a "fat" woman and not being one. Part of my mind still feels "fat" and acts that way. That is the reason why I am exactly straight in between fat and slim--slim in some areas with pudge other places. In the past I've eaten like size 10 on many days but a size 18 on other days, based upon my emotions. That currently makes me a size 14.

I do feel that my last thing to learn is to have a better mindset. I'm a very emotional person, so I have to be relentless with myself to not let myself sink down too far.

Lastly, most problems even in a stressful life, do resolve themselves just with time. I need to trust that time will soothe my stress.

You are inspirational to me--but just a dear person too. We are only as good as our last actions. But even with that being said, we are quite good.

    :-) Marion
