Quick Fixes, Magic Pills and Excuses ....

It's too hot to think around here so if you've been sitting there at the computer looking, JUST LOOKING, for some sort of motivation, head over to Anonymous Fat Girl's site and read this post. That's right Bobbie, there are no quick fixes, magic pills or excuses.

I had been feeling a bit discouraged lately by my snail's pace weight loss, especially when people like Jewlia Goulia hit 100 pounds lost in under seven months (Congrats Jewlia ;), and then a little light went off when I read AFG's post and realize I'm still a work in progress, but I am doing this. I have lost 34.8 lbs. off of my body and sustained a healthy lifestyle for over eight months. No quick fixes and no excuses. Even Jewlia agrees that there are no magic pills, no fad diets, no reality shows, just simply eating well and moving!

It's not a competition to see how fast we can lose weight but how we learn to live and love a healthy lifestyle. You know, live and learn.

  2. Yes - comparing yourself to other people is not productive or healthy. It's YOUR journey and you are doing it at your own pace and doing a great job.

  3. Kudos to Jewlia! I took 17 months to lose the same amount of weight. At the end of it, we've both accomplished the same thing. So your point is well made that it's all individual. The final result is what matters, not the amount of time it takes to get there. You're doing great and have accomplished so much!

  4. I have been going at this for 14 months and have lost 109 lbs. That may seem like alot, but other people have gotten it off much faster...a lot have gotten it off much slower.
We are all going to go our own pace. It usually turns out to be the pace that is right for our journey and what it is we need to learn.
As long as that weight STAYS off, it is a victory. slow and steady wins the race.

  5. I know you are all right. I've lost over 60 pounds in 4 months in the past but it didn't stay off. It seems if I'm not trying to lose, I'm gaining, so it's good to take it off slowly and learn how to maintain which is where I always get tripped up. Thanks for all the encouragement. You guys rock!

  6. I think you're doing just fantastic...maintaining what you've already lost is terrific. Dude...I got down to 226 before my beach trip in May and have PUT BACK ON 25 of them!!! GRRRRR!!! I need to get my fat ass back in gear...like, NOW. :)

  7. I could not agree more. Slow and steady wins the race in my book!

And I've realized I need to kick up my workouts and put the wine down - I am contemplating making the month of August alcohol free as we have no plans that month. It would be interesting to see if that makes a lot of difference!

  8. I've got to say that it does take a bit longer now that I'm in my (early!) 40's. Your loss so far is wonderful :)

  10. Perhaps, if we're really to keep it off when we're done (SO important, right?) we need the time for our heads to adjust too, not just our fat cells. I've often complained about the slow pace of my loss, but I've been doing the best I can, so what more can I ask? Hang in there! You've been doing so well.
