Original South Beach Diet

My brother likes to say there is only ONE diet that always works. It's the Original South Beach Diet: vodka, cocaine and cigarettes. It's extremely effective but can only be used by the young and stupid and I am neither.

I still enjoy a little Stoli, Grey Goose, Kettle One or Absolut now and then but I haven't touched blow since sometime in the mid-80s and I kicked the cigarette habit around the same time back when they cost $1.25/pack.

I'll admit it's tempting because you definitely get results quick and it's so easy to do because when you're drunk or strung out on nose candy you don't even think of food and we all know that cigarettes kill your taste buds but I think I'll keep trying the old fashion tricks of eating healthy foods and moving my a$$.

Things were so much easier when I was young and stupid. What's the worst effective diet you've tried?

  1. Nothing as extreme as this (I was a little goodie goodie :)

I did slimfast back in the late 80's and developed gallstones thanks to a lack of good fats. That REALLY helped lose the weight!

  3. I never did anything super crazy, but I did try slimfast. I also did too low calories and really messed up my metabolism that way.

I did get on the low fat craze in the 80s counting fat grams. I can't tell you how many Snackwells I consumed during that period :D

  5. My worst but most effective diet? Hmmmm.... smoking too much! That's about it. I never did drugs... too chicken!
Oh and getting pregnant...6 times in 10 years and breast feeding them all... that kept me thin!

  9. I think the worst is pure fasting. Not good, not good, but it works fast. Hang in there, remember the healthier you are at the end of the "loss" part of your journey, the stronger you will be and the more resistant to falling back to unhealthy habits.

  10. Manuela: I did that slimfast in the 80s too. Luckily, no gallstones developed.

Lori: I think the lowfat diets were the worst 'cause I only ended up replacing the fat with sugar that is worse for me.

LAF: HAHAHA...I can't imagine trying to eat while sniffing the drip. That is crazy.

Chris H: I'll have to take your word on the breast feeding diet.

Sian: Oh, I did the low carb atkins-type thing too. Worked great and lost 60+ pounds and then I ate a crouton and exploded. Thanks, I love your site too.

Aileen: Thanks but I hate traffic jams and love my small group of supporters.

Lady Vea: I was never able to keep up the fasting for very long. I hope I do it right this time so I won't have to do it ever again.

  13. I have been looking for a good book to help me get through my diet. In the end I googled it and found this site http://www.hungryforweightloss.com.

They are giving away a free ebook called "365 tips for healthy living". I didn't expect it to be any good because it's free but it's actually brilliant so I thought i'd share it here :)
