Judgment Free Zone

I got a month's head start on all those people who make the new year resolution to get in shape. I received a coupon for a 1 year membership for $99 to my local health club so I decided to splurge even though I don't have a paycheck anymore. You can't beat that price.

My bf and a few other friends have deluxe memberships to this gym where they can bring a guest for free so I usually just go with one of them but since I now have more time on my hands and can go anytime during the day I decided to suck it up and pay for my own membership so I don't have to be dependant on anyone else.

Yesterday was my first day at the gym and I felt so good getting all sweaty. I have a dreadmill and elliptical machine at home but it just isn't the same. I get a better workout at the gym just looking at everyone else pushing it and working hard. I only worked out for an hour but I got a good sweat on even though I didn't push it too hard the first day.

I'm going to be hitting the gym like it's my job now so hopefully there will be some significant weight loss to report here in the coming months. Stay tuned.

  1. I've heard people say that when you don't have a job you should work as hard at getting a job as you would if you were working. Maybe you can get a job at the gym. You can teach them! ;-)
Enjoy your membership. That's what I'd do.

  2. Did you mean to type "dreadmill" vs. "treadmill," or was that a Freudian slip? ;-)

Good for you! Nothing like a good workout. My hardest part is actually getting my lazy self to the gym.

Enjoy the work-outs! Who knows who you might meet and to what that can lead....work wise of course.

  5. POD: I'm going to enjoy some time off on unemployment for a while before I even start looking for a job. The last year was such hell, I really need time to de-stress and figure out what I want to do. Maybe a job at the gym is something I could look into.

S: "Dreadmill" wasn't a Freudian slip, it's my pet name for the treadmill. Everytime I'm on it I feel like a hampster on a wheel. ;) I'm much rather be outside getting fresh air but it isn't always possible. I'm finding it much easier to get to the gym now that I don't have to spend 8 hours at the office.

Me: I actually have been enjoying the workouts so that's good. I should probably take the headphones out of my ears if I want to meet people, huh?

Cammy: Now I just need to make the time investment. I've gone 3 days in a row now and can't wait to start seeing results.

LAF: Thanks. It does feel good. ;)

  7. Good luck with the working out! Remember not to go too hard on yourself. I made that mistake and now I'm burned out. Hydrate, get rest, and enjoy!!!

  8. Tricia: Thanks, I'm worth it, right?

Denise: I've only been going about an hour a day to start but plan on increasing the time and intensity every week. Thanks for the good advice.

  9. Yeah, it's always good to start nice and slow. Give your body time to adjust then steadily increase reps/workout time/etc. Hope you're doing well!
