The Nuts

"The Nuts" is the absolute best possible hand in any given hand of poker. It's the unbeatable, unbreakable hand. Having "the Nuts" is a very good thing but eating the nuts all night long is not.
I love playing poker but I haven't figured out how to do it without stuffing my poker face full of snacks. I always have fun getting together with friends and taking their money but I hate taking away all the extra calories along with the cash. I'm happy I came in 1st place last night but I'm not happy about all the crap I ate.

I had a decent dinner before heading out so I wouldn't be tempted by the snack food but it didn't work out so well. I ate baked tortilla chips, nuts (pistachios, cashews and walnuts) and then it got really bad when some leftover fun sized Halloween candy got broken out. I had a few Butterfingers and a few Health bars before I pulled in the reins and stopped myself from a full fledged binge. I felt so gross and disgusted with myself. I didn't want to eat that crap but I did it anyway. When will I learn?

I need to be able to resist the temptation to eat just because it's there and everyone else is eating it. I need to figure out how to have a social life and stay on my healthy eating plan.
I can't even use alcohol as an excuse because I gave that up for Lent so I was only drinking water. Maybe I should have given up chocolate for 40 days instead of vodka.

It looks like I'll be spending my time at the gym this this week working the chocolate off my poker face.

  2. Indeed, one day is not as bad as one whole week!!! You'll be fine.
Yet it could also be a new goal to work on; social eating. I know it is or me from now on.
Have fun at the gym, enjoy it.

  3. Maybe you should make a deal (ha! I made a pun! haha!) with yourself that if you eat crap all night, then you have to give your winnings away, or use them to buy lots of vegetables the next day! That might give you some incentive to stay on track. :)

  4. it definitely is hard. I know I always eat before I go somewhere and sometimes it works, other times, I still eat the snacks provided. As long as you arent doing it every day, it shouldnt really affect the scale, so just move on and come up with a plan for next time of how you can be more successful.

  5. It's so hard not to participate in social eating. I hate social eating. It's almost a new level of peer pressure or something. Today's a new day so don't beat yourself up! :)

  6. I'm not sure it's social eating so much as 'being still' eating (or some science-y term for that.) I met friends for a bowling night out and didn't even flinch when they started wolfing down cheese fries and nachos. Another night we played board games and I couldn't begin to count the number of trips I made to the snack table. Maybe it has more to do with being in a small-ish room with nothing else to distract us?

Oh well, on the bright side: you got lots of protein and healthy fat? :)

  7. Dude...I hear ya'. My social eating problem is more along the lines of my boyfriend eating problem. I did good on Friday, but we went out to a Mexican restaurant Saturday...1/2 a bowl of chips, salsa, 4 soft tacos, all washed down with a my part of a pitcher and a half of frozen margaritas. Would you be kind enough to just lock me away somewhere for like 6 months and only feed me bread and water until I've withered away to nothing? :)

  8. I wish you all the best. Social eating has to be the most difficult to regulate. Hang in there!

  9. Hey, I hear ya. Sometimes I am so so good, and then I also do that (oh well everyone else is) and even kind caring and usually supportive (THIN) people always try and make me feel like it is ok to eat the cake or chips or pizza or whatever, I was so good and am looking great, so go ahead and dig in....

Only they don't "get it", it is like we're struggling in AA or something only with "bad food" BFA... we have to either NOT eat it at ALL or we binge. I just go into auto pilot, even if I am screaming to myself in my head how horrid I will feel later, I still stuff my face to get my food fix.

So yeah, the one bite thing only works for certain things and sadly not for enough things we are desperately trying to avoid, right?

Hang in there and kick butt at the gym! :-)

  10. I also end up stuffing myself with snacks when I'm out with friends. Especially when we're drinking or watching movies. Just have to learn how to say no.

  12. Sounds like you *could* have a social life at the gym. When we are raised to eat around family and friends, what the heck are we supposed to do? I'm trying to figure out a way to celebrate my bday without food. Without cake? are you kidding!?!
Don't kick yourself too hard at the gym.
