Thematic Photographic 97 - Spring Has Sprung

Thematic Photographic was on hiatus for a while but I'm happy to say it's back. This week's theme is "Spring Has Sprung." I love taking springtime photos at the Public Gardens in Boston but, unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate this year and I missed the flowering trees. I was even more disappointed when the strong wind storms destroyed most of the tulips. The lack of flowers forced me to switch off the macro and point my lens in another direction. I'm glad I did because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten this shot which is a little overexposed but I still love it. I don't know the little girl so it was just a fleeting moment I was lucky to catch as she raced by to catch up to her family.
The seasons change so quick around here we often say if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it will change. We've already had temps in the '90s but it was snowing in Vermont on Sunday and there have been freeze and frost warnings the past few nights.
I feel like I'm always rushing around trying to capture the seasons before I miss it and have to wait another year to try it again. I definitely didn't get my fill of snowy pictures this year. I was able to get a few shots of the remaining tulips which you can see here.

You can get all the Thematic Photographic details and join the fun over at Carmi's place at writteninc.

Thematic Photographic 86 - Water in any form

ICE, ICE Baby.
Water is such a powerful element that has the ability to sustain us or destroy us. We need water to survive and at the same time we can be destroyed by droughts, floods and powerful rain, ice and snow storms. Our daily lives can be turned upside down because of ice.
My favorite form of water is obviously snow but considering the fact that I was kept off the snowmobile trails this past weekend because of all the rain that promptly turned the trails to ice I decided to enter this week's Thematic Photographic with an icy picture.

Thematic Photographic 85 - I'm Hungry

This week's Thematic Photographic theme is "I'm Hungry."

I took this picture over three years ago but I'm not sure if I even felt true hunger back then because I was constantly eating. I never gave my body time to get hungry because I was constantly stuffing fattening food down my throat. I was so disgusted just looking at the evidence in the trash so I took this picture to remind myself how awful I felt after eating that crap. That day I vowed to stop the out of control eating and get healthy, lose the weight and (FINALLY) keep it off.

Over the past 20 years I've been on almost every diet out there except for the really crazy no food diets because that's just not possible for me. The biggest lesson I've learned from all those diets is that you can lose weight with any diet but if you don't learn how to eat right you will have an endless ride on the weight loss roller coaster. I know women who go to WW but instead of learning how to eat right they starve themselves all day so they can drink beer at night. How crazy is that?

I'm learning to feel hunger again and know that I will not starve to death before my next meal. I'm hungry for a healthy life. What are you hungry for?

Thematic Photographic 84 - White

As you all know, I love snow so I just had to participate in this week's Thematic Photographic assignment "White." There is nothing better than flying through the fluffy powder on my sled but the thing I love even more than riding on the snow is the calming effect it has on my mind. The snow muffles the noise of the world and everything seems so quiet and serene. The blanket of white covering everything looks so clean and pure. I know snow is good for my soul. I agree that it's a pain to have to shovel it and commute to work in it but you should try to have fun with it too. Build a snowman, make a snow angel, have a snowball fight, take a walk in it ... just enjoy it before it melts.

Thematic Photographic 76 - Orange

This is my entry for this week's Thematic Photographic theme which is Orange. I like how the butterfly has a piece of its wing missing. It's beautiful but not perfect.

Thematic Photographic 73 - Leaves

I always try to take a few days off around peak foliage season so I can do some leaf peeping and get some good photos. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate this year so I wasn't able to get the shots I wanted without the fog and rain getting in the way.

I love watching the colors change and the leaves fall because it means the snow isn't far behind.

If you would like to join in the Thematic Photographic fun, head over to Written Inc., check it out and share your "Leaves."

Thematic Photographic 55 - Cloudy

Here in my little corner of the northeast we've had plenty of time to get familiar with clouds as it has been a record month for rainfall, clouds and lack of sunshine. It gets a little depressing after weeks without sunshine. I don't know how people in London get through all those foggy gloomy days. There must be a trick to it. I'm happy to say things are looking brighter today. The big yellow orb has finally decided to peek out and show itself. Hopefully it will stick around for a while.

I took this photo from a cruise ship in Boston Harbor a couple of years ago. I always love it when the sunshine streams through the clouds. It seems magical to me.

Thematic Photographic 54 - Going Geen

I love seeing Cami's view of the world and especially enjoyed seeing him without pants on in yesterday's post ;). Makes you wonder what's going on under the newsroom desks, huh?

This week's theme is GREEN. I wanted to take pictures of a huge pile of money but couldn't find enough of it to make the picture work.

This sunflower didn't stay green for very long. Doesn't it look ready to burst?

If you want to join the Thematic Photographic fun, head over to written inc. and get the details. I don't know how he comes up with interesting new themes every week. It's inspiring to see the different ways people get creative with each week's theme.

Join in, have fun and go GREEN.

Thematic Photographic - Winter

I have been slacking in my Thematic Photographic participation but wanted to be sure to post an entry on my favorite season - Winter. I know people are longing for Spring here but I am holding out for more snow. I absolutely love winter and winter sports - especially snowmobiling. You can check out more snowy winter photos on my VTRiders blog.

Thematic Photographic - Autumn

This week's Thematic Photographic theme is Autumn. This photo isn't the typical Autumn photo of leaves turning or pumpkin patches but I thought I would try for a little out of the ordinary. If you want pretty leaves you can check them out here, here and here.

You know the drill, stop on over at written inc. to get all the details and join the fun.

Thematic Photographic - Night

My night vision isn't great but just like Carmi, I can't go out in the sunshine without squinting and shading my eyes or wearing dark sunglasses. My eyes are super sensitive and water when the wind blows or bright lights shine on them. I guess it isn't so strange that I can't control the flow of tears.

This week's thematic photographic theme is night. I took this photo at Downtown Crossing about this time last year.

Thematic Photographic - Happy

This week's Thematic Photographic theme is "HAPPY." Unfortunately, I haven't been very happy these days but this picture always helps. Who can be unhappy looking at a sweet baby face.

I couldn't decide whether the baby face actually fit the theme so I decided to add this photo that was taken at a wedding in Disney last year. It is where the magic happens, right? Can anyone be unhappy at Disney?

Thematic Photographic - Grounded

As a photographer, I'm always interested in viewing photographs and seeing other points of view. For months I've wanted to participate in the weekly Thematic Photographic fun which I first found at Erin's site. Unfortunately, I'm such a procrastinator that by the time I find the right picture the next week's theme is up and I missed the boat. I was determined to get involved even if my entries are late but luckily I had two days off this week so I was able to get out and get some new stuff. Thematic Photographic originates with the talented Carmi at written inc.

Here's the deal:

Every Wednesday evening, Carmi posts a new Thematic Photographic entry. Each entry has a unique theme. This week's is...grounded. You post a similarly themed image over on your blog and you paste a link to your entry in a comment at written inc. If you've already posted something that fits (on a blog, Facebook, MySpace, wherever) simply post the link to the existing entry.

You may post as many photos or links as you wish. For the week, Carmi will be supporting the theme with a related picture/posting each day and we are all encouraged to do the same. This is all about sharing, so feel free to share to your heart's content!

Please share this link with friends, too, and encourage them to join in. The more, the merrier.
